I tweet sarcastically. Even if I am posting a link to a news article or re-tweeting someone, I still may interject a sarcastic comment or two before the re-tweet or article. Just lately, I have begun to notice that some people are losing their sense of humor on Twitter, and I don't know why. I do see a lot of political bickering back and forth on Twitter but, if at all possible, I avoid any and all Twitter altercations. I try to tweet by the Golden Rule: "Tweet unto others as you would have them Tweet unto you." There needs to be a face invented that stands for sarcasm only. Kind of like the smiley face, so that people will understand you are kidding. Because, even if you add the smiley face :) to your tweets, some people just don't get it! The only other solution is to start each of my tweets with this disclaimer: "This tweet is not meant to offend anyone, and is intended only for the purpose of expressing sarcasm at the absurdity of the human condition." Unfortunately, this will defeat the whole purpose of tweeting since the above disclaimer consists of 138 characters and Twitter only allows 140 characters per tweet.
In that case, maybe I will use this disclaimer: "The owner of this Twitter account is not responsible for any tweets others may deem offensive!" Short and right to the point, right? Now I'm down to 95 characters. It's still too long. Rats! The only other solution I can come up with is to add this disclaimer to my bio and hope that people read it before they follow me.
Better yet, maybe I'll just continue to be myself and not care what people think. It's the intention that counts, right? I am not out to intentionally offend anyone. *Well, not unless you're a Republican. :>
