Memories of an Ex-Aerobic Instructor

I went to a spinning class this morning and it reminded me of how addicting working out can be. Now if you hate to exercise, hear me out and don't stop reading. It's the adrenalin rush that is addicting, not so much the actual exercise. The instructor, who was in her 20s and wearing a knee brace, had just finished teaching the previous class and was also teaching this one! The knee brace was what brought back the memories. I would teach classes sick, hurt, tired, etc. It's not always easy to get a sub, which is what you do if you can't teach your class. If you are unable to find a sub, you teach your class no matter what! No excuses! You may feel like crap before the class, but once the adrenalin kicks in, you feel great. Afterwards, you crash...hard! Keep that up for a number of years, and eventually it wears your body down. It is not healthy! Which is one of the reasons I "retired".

It is rewarding when someone attends classes regularly and you see their progress in terms of their aerobic capacity increasing. Now, I've always been a bit bossy, so instructing on proper form and encouraging people to push themselves came naturally. :)  If I asked myself if I missed anything about it, I would have to say that I miss teaching my senior citizen class the most. They were a hoot. But, I'll save that for another blog!

Now, I am content with attending classes and standing or sitting near the back of the class. I admit that I am silently critiquing their teaching technique throughout the class. I can't help it! But today, for some reason, all I wanted to do was feed the instructor. She must have weighed 100 pounds wet and, after teaching two classes in a row, she must have been starving. I know I was!
